If you haven't read it... http://www.skyrunner.com/ppcourse.htm From that: "After the canon goes off the race starts just like any other, and just like any other the first minutes are the most important. Now is a good time (and the only chance for a long time) to look up at the Peak and ask yourself if you can hold your current effort for the next 2 to 6.5 hours..." In response to: So I am a newbie and have a few lingering questions that I would love to get opinions on! 1. How do you pace yourself? I am used to being able to exert myself enough to do a sub 3:30 negative split marathon but when you are doing positive splits at altitude how do you gauge where you should be at each point? 2. Handheld water bottle or small 50 oz Nathan/Camelback? I am 110 lbs and hate carrying anything but not sure I can get away with nothing. Thanks!
